He
encouraged residents to register their neighborhood event with the Ramsey County Sheriff's
Office.
Councilmember Holmes indicated that she and Sara Knoll would be meeting with a
representative from the GreenStep program on Thursday, August 3 at 8:00 a.m. regarding the
City's participation in the GreenStep program.
Councilmember Holden stated that the parcel at county Road D had recently been purchased.
Mayor Grant requested staff provide the Council with a brief presentation on the small cell
towers.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka discussed the research she had conducted and
commented on the summary the League of Minnesota Cities had available. She reported the new
legislation allows small cell towers to be installed in public right-of-way. She explained the size
had to be limited, along with the amount of equipment. She anticipated the City would have to
amend its right-of-way Ordinance and fee schedule in order to allow for small cell towers in the
City.
Councilmember Holmes asked if this entire initiative centered on the upcoming Super Bowl and
questioned what companies were driving this change.
Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka stated the Super Bowl was the driving factor,
along with the new 5G technology.
Councilmember Holden understood that the added capacity would assist in keeping all of the
visitors for the Super Bowl able to use their phones and tablets.
Mayor Grant requested an update on Simple Recycling.
Senior Planner Bachler commented on the contract the City was working to secure with Simple
Recycling which would allow for textile collections in Arden Hills.
