Initially
Shakopee relied exclusively on LOGIS staff and
LOGIS applications for GIS support. WSB performed
a detailed needs assessment and worked with the
City to implement its own ArcGIS Server architecture
in house using VMware and ArcGIS Server.
Shakopee’s GIS Specialist now manages the City’s
GIS using the ArcGIS Platform and Esri’s Local
Government Information Model. The enterprise GIS
system enables City staff to effectively manage and
maintain all the City’s GIS resources including:
·Physical infrastructure features for public works
and engineering
·City-wide reference mapping
·Integration with third party fi nance and asset
management solutions
WSB also assisted with implementing the City’s asset
management solution, Cartegraph, and its integration
with Shakopee’s GIS resources. Coupled together,
the City has GIS integrated asset management
solution that’s both accessible in the offi ce and in the
fi eld. Signifi cant work fl ow analysis was performed
to ensure that the system promoted effi ciency and
streamlined workfl ows.
The City’s GIS and asset management solution have
also been integrated with building/code enforcement
inspections, fi nance, and fl eet maintenance.
Additionally, Shakopee has deployed WSB’s DataLink
web mapping application that utilizes Esri’s ArcGIS
Javascript API web mapping platform. DataLink
provides a single, platform independent user interface
for accessing GIS and integrated resources. DataLink
is used to access and visualize various mapping
resources including:
·City-wide reference mapping
·Property information
·Physical infrastructure
·Work management
·Public safety
WSB also worked with City staff to implement the
City’s ArcGIS Online solution. ArcGIS Online, coupled
with the City’s existing GIS resources, empowers City
staff to create their own maps and applications from a
variety of sources including spreadsheets and simple
data collection projects.
A Proposal to Provide GIS Services to the City of Arden Hills
