<br /> <br />City of Arden Hills <br />Economic Development Commission September 6, 2017 <br /> <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />DATE: September 6, 2017 EDC Agenda Item 4.A <br /> <br />TO: Economic Development Commission Chair and Commissioners <br /> <br />FROM: Matthew Bachler, Senior Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: 2040 Comprehensive Plan Update <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Minnesota Statute requires that all communities within the seven-county metropolitan area <br />update their Comprehensive Plans every ten years. The City’s Comprehensive Plan must also <br />reflect the adopted regional policies in the Metropolitan Council’s system and policy plans. The <br />City Council has approved a contract with WSB & Associate to complete the 2040 <br />Comprehensive Plan update. To date, the following meetings have been held on the <br />Comprehensive Plan update: <br /> <br />Date Meeting Topic <br />March 20, 2017 City Council Work Session Review City Vision and Goals <br />June 7, 2017 Planning Commission Housing <br />August 21, 2017 City Council Work Session Housing and Land Use <br /> <br />The City is also completing a Commercial, Industrial, and Higher Education Study that has <br />generated several recommended changes to the Land Use chapter of the Comprehensive Plan. A <br />draft of this study was reviewed by the EDC at their meeting on August 2, 2017. <br /> <br />Discussion <br /> <br />The following items are identified in the draft Commercial, Industrial, and Higher Education <br />Study as areas the City may want to evaluate in updating the Comprehensive Plan. Staff is <br />requesting that the EDC review these items and provide feedback. The Land Use chapter from <br />the 2030 Comprehensive Plan is included in Attachment A and the 2030 Future Land Use Map is <br />included in Attachment B. <br /> <br /> <br /> MEMORANDUM <br />
