EDC Minutes <br />August 2, 2017 <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Chair Dan Erickson arrived at 8:20 a.m. <br /> <br />WSB Senior Planner Zweber noted the next steps would include the Planning Commission <br />reviewing the draft study and possible zoning code amendments, the City Council reviewing at <br />their August Work Session, a public hearing in September and City Council approval. <br /> <br />After discussion of the draft study, the Commission expressed thanks to Mr. Zweber and WSB for <br />completing the study. <br /> <br />B. State of the City <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler provided an update on the State of the City. The morning session will be <br />on September 28, 2017, 7:30 a.m. at the Tavern Grill. The evening session will be October 3, <br />2017 at City Hall. A Communications Coordinator was hired by the City and she will be involved <br />in the planning and promoting of the events. Postcards will be available for Economic <br />Development Commission members to distribute. <br /> <br />C. Business Retention and Expansion Program <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler asked if members were having success contacting the businesses on the <br />list for interviews. <br /> <br />Commissioner Liz Johnson stated that she is not succeeding in contacting Top Case or <br />OrthoCore. <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler noted that they are focusing on office and manufacturing businesses <br />rather than retail at this time. He will resend the list of businesses and assigned EDC members. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />5. UPDATES <br /> <br />A. Commission Members <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />B. Council Liaison <br /> <br />Council Liaison McClung noted the new Communications Coordinator position was filled and <br />National Night Out was held on August 1. <br /> <br />C. Staff Comments <br /> <br />Senior Planner Bachler noted that the Smiths Medical building was purchased and the property <br />would be returned to a multi-tenant use. JR Properties issued a letter of intent to purchase the old <br />Aerotech property on Northwoods Drive. A formal application is expected to go before the <br />Council in September.
