Observations
Good participation, as far as surveys go! 327 people completed the survey out of 2,822 households, which is about a 12%
response rate.
People who were engaged electronically had a higher response rate, nearly double that of paper responders.
Arden Hills residents are generally satisfied with the newsletter. Nearly everyone reads it!
Arden Hills residents would like to receive the newsletter in both print and electronic formats. Of those who responded to the
survey via snail mail, 30 percent use a computer to access news.
Arden Hills residents (both paper based and electronic respondents) are interested in receiving news alerts about emergency
notices, road construction, public works projects (i.e. hydrant flushing, plowing) and development projects.
Council columns and feature articles are not seen as useful as other news topics for both paper and electronic respondents.
Older residents also did not find Parks and Rec news as useful, while younger residents did not find recent Council action as
useful.
The individual comments regarding ways to improve communication focus on multiple channels that include mailed newsletter,
emailed newsletter, email notices and social media. They want all of these news channels.
Arden Hills residents who responded have primary representation from two demographic groups:
Those 66 and older who have lived in Arden Hills for 30 or more years
Those 36-45 who have lived in Arden Hills 11-20 years. Interestingly, this group is equally bookended
by those ages 26-35, 46-55 and 66-75—a diverse range of age groups to serve.
