Ramsey County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, 2018 <br /> <br />Page | 29 <br /> <br />The Benson Airport is owned by White Bear Township, and permission is required prior to landing. <br />There is one turf runway (2,000' x 75'), and 25 aircraft are based at the field. There is an average of 88 <br />aircraft operations per week. There are no night operations at the airport. <br />3.9 Land Use and Ownership <br />Ramsey County is primarily urban and developed. According to the Ramsey County Comprehensive <br />Plan, only 8.3% of the county remains undeveloped, with land use primarily consisting of agricultural, <br />recreational, transportation, residential, multi-residential, commercial, industrial and mixed use. <br />According to the 2012 U.S. Census of Agriculture, 97 farms exist in the county, covering 723 acres. Of <br />this farming land, 55% is cropland. The number of farms in the county increased by 223% between 2007 <br />and 2012, while the number of acres farmed decreased by 23% (Census of Agriculture, 2012). <br />According to Minnesota DNR data, there are only 2 feedlots in the county. <br />Land ownership categories from the 2008 U.S. Geological Survey GAP (Gap Analysis Program) are <br />shown in Figure A - 8 (Appendix A: Ramsey County Maps). Land cover is also mapped in Figure A - 7. <br />Sites with chemical and hazardous waste based on data from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency <br />(MPCA) are mapped in Figure A - 12. <br />
