Page 1 of 1 <br /> <br /> CONSENT ITEM – 7R <br /> <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> <br />DATE: April 22, 2019 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> David Perrault, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Sue Polka, Interim Public Works Director/ City Engineer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Old Snelling Avenue Bridge Improvements – Amendment to Professional <br />Services Agreement with Kimley-Horn <br /> <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br />$1,750,000 $601,147 PIR, MnDOT Bridge Bonding <br /> <br /> <br />Council Should Consider <br />Authorize the amendment to the professional services agreement with Kimley-Horn for <br />construction phase services for the Old Snelling Avenue bridge improvements in the amount of <br />$17,775.00 (Attachment A). <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />On December 12, 2011, the council awarded a professional services contract to Kimley-Horn for <br />final design services for the Old Snelling Avenue bridge with a total cost of $72,373. On July 9, <br />2018, the council awarded a professional services contract to Kimley-Horn for engineering <br />services for the Old Snelling Avenue bridge replacement in the amount of $91,360. During final <br />design and construction several issues arose which increased the scope of the work. The <br />increased scope was due to discovery of contaminated materials upon excavation of the old <br />bridge footings requiring additional documentation for material disposal, change in design due to <br />Rice Creek Watershed District permit requirements, utility relocations and fire hydrant <br />replacement requested by City staff. Staff is requesting that Council approve the amendment to <br />the Kimley-Horn contract in the amount of $17,775. With construction costs of $419,639, total <br />project costs to date if this amendment is approved will total $601,147. The project is nearing <br />completion with final restoration anticipated by June 1, 2019 at which time staff will request <br />reimbursement through the MnDOT bridge bonding program and Municipal State Aid funds. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />A – Amendment to Professional Services Agreement - Kimley-Horn
