<br />City of Arden Hills <br />City Council Meeting for April 22, 2019 <br />P:\Planning\Planning Cases\2019\19-003 Bethel Sci Addition - SP\Memos Reports <br /> <br />Page 1 of 5 <br />CONSENT ITEM – 7H <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: April 22, 2019 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> Dave Perrault, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Mike Mrosla, City Planner <br /> Sarah Strain, Consultant City Planner <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Planning Case #19-003 <br /> Applicant: Bethel University <br />Property Location: 3900 Bethel Drive <br />Request: Site Plan Review <br /> <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> N/A N/A N/A <br /> <br /> <br />Council Should Consider the Following: <br /> <br />Motion to approve Planning Case 19-003 for a Site Plan Review for Bethel University, based on <br />the findings of fact and the submitted plans, as amended by the eleven (11) conditions of approval <br />in the April 3, 2019 Report to the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />At the March 26, 2018 meeting, the City Council approved the Amended Conditional Use Permit <br />(CPU) and Master Plan Amendment and Variance Approval Agreement for a 20,000 square foot <br />addition to the Academic Commons building at Bethel University. As a condition of approval, the <br />proposed addition required Site Plan approval. <br /> <br />The proposed addition is a component of a larger, phased project Bethel University is planning <br />for the Academic Commons and Lundquist Community Life Center buildings. The proposed <br />plan would include 45,000 gross square feet of renovations within the existing Academic <br />Commons building and a new 20,000 gross square foot addition on the northwest corner of the <br />building on an existing small parking lot. The addition would match the height of the existing <br />three-story Academic Commons building. The proposed renovations and addition are needed to <br />support science academic programs on the campus.
