Parks, Trails & Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes March 19, 2019 <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />the hockey rink and ultimately a trail will be built on the west side of the parking lot to the south <br />side of the park. A rain garden is being proposed in the center of the parking lot. <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Sara Knoll noted there are now two soccer fields at the park. <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Knoll said parking lot Concept A would be a better for dropping off children at the <br />park. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka mentioned the picnic shelter will be getting <br />a new roof. <br /> <br />C. Cummings Park Improvements <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka said they’ve been working with WSB on a <br />new layout. The wooden boundary will be removed and replaced with a flat ribbon curb and <br />sidewalk entrance from the existing trail. The old equipment will be removed and refurbished at <br />no cost to the city by Bauer Brothers. Proposals for the playground equipment were received, <br />WSB recommended the Little Tykes submission. <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Knoll said that equipment has options for both 2-5 year olds and 6-12 year olds as <br />there are two different age groups in the Playground Program. <br /> <br />PTRC Members reviewed the proposals provided and also recommended the Little Tykes Option. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka will follow up with Boston Scientific <br />regarding the basketball court contribution and a potential volleyball court. <br /> <br />D. 2018 Completed Projects <br /> <br />Chair Rich Straumann noted the Snelling Avenue trail is open. <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka said Xcel will be providing money to <br />replace the garden at Lindey’s park. <br /> <br />Committee Member John Van Valkenburg noted the County Road F trail is finished. <br /> <br />Chair Rich Straumann said Johanna Marsh was completed. <br /> <br />Staff Liaison Knoll said the Perry Park dog park is very well used, and she felt they should work <br />on improving that dog park. <br /> <br />Discussion ensued regarding the future roundabout at Lindey’s corner and the Moundsview High <br />School project. <br /> <br />E. 2019 PTRC Goals <br /> <br />Interim Public Works Director/City Engineer Polka said there will be hard court reconstruction <br />of the tennis/basketball court at Hazelnut Park and at Royal Hills Park.
