June 3, 2020
RE: Ecko Estates Preliminary Plat and Variance
Dear Planning Commission members,
I have been to numerous city council meetings regarding the rezoning of the former Lake Johanna fire
station property at 3246 New Brighton Road. I live 2 doors down from the property on Jerrold Ave.
I urge you to accept the proposed application the O'Meara's have requested. Barry and Brendan have
patiently explained the details to those neighbors in attendance in prior meetings and I am satisfied that
the division to 4 lots is the best solution for redevelopment of the property.
I have seven reasons for accepting this change:
1. The O'Meara's are local neighbors with a track record of building quality homes in our area.
2. They assured us that they would not remove trees unless necessary.
3. If the property will be kept at 3 lots it is likely that the homes built will be larger (as can fit)than
would be built on smaller lots. McMansions do not fit with the character of the neighborhood
and would tower over the nearby homes.
4. Because the area has become an eyesore and hazard to the neighborhood, I request a quick
resolution so that building can begin.
5. Barry and Brendan O'Meara have assured the neighbors and city council that they intend to
listen to and cooperate with the city and neighbors in the process. This has been evidenced by
their willingness to make changes to the placement of the homes on the lots after discussions in
earlier meetings.
6. Because of the cost of the property and clean up, it is not financially feasible for any builder to
build small homes on three lots.
7. Denying this request will restart the process and a solution will be put off even longer.
Thank you.
James and Tracy Timp
1901 Jerrold Av
