Agenda Item <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: July 21, 2020 <br /> <br />TO: Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee <br /> <br />FROM: Joe Vaughan, Recreation Programmer <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Regional Solicitation Applications for Trail Extensions <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />Every two years, the Metropolitan Council and the Transportation Advisory Board solicits <br />applications for the Regional Solicitation grant program. This program provides metro area <br />counties and cities with the opportunity to apply for federal funding for transportation and <br />infrastructure projects. The Regional Solicitation specifically provides funding to communities <br />within the greater metro area for highway, road, transit and other transportation improvements. <br /> <br />The Public Works Department applied for two projects for the Regional Solicitation Grant <br />Program within the Bicycle and Pedestrian category. <br /> <br />Project 1 - The Mounds View High School Trail. <br />This project would be an extension of the trail built in 2018 on the west side of Snelling Avenue <br />North. The trail would extend from County E2 to Lake Valentine Road, continuing on to the east <br />parking lot for Mounds View High School. See Attachment A for project summary. <br /> <br />Project 2 – The Old Snelling Trail Extension <br />This project would be an extension north adjacent to Old Snelling Highway 10 from Lake <br />Valentine Road to Wedgewood Circle. See Attachment B for project summary. <br /> <br />The applications were submitted on May 15, 2020. The Transportation Advisory Board will <br />select projects for funding in December 2020. A total of approximately $180 million in federal <br />funds is anticipated to be available in this solicitation for program years 2024 and 2025.
