CONSENT ITEM—6E <br /> ,fi` DEN HILLS <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: August 10, 2020 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> David Perrault, City Administrator <br /> FROM: David Swearingen, Assistant City Engineer, Engineer in Training <br /> Todd Blomstrom, Public Works Director/City Engineer <br /> SUBJECT: 2020 Concrete Repair Project <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> $65,000.00 $53,807.50 Surface Water Fund <br /> (604-49550-44030) <br /> Council Should Consider <br /> Approval of a construction contract with Klein Underground LLC for 2020 Concrete Repairs in <br /> the amount of$27,824.50. <br /> Back2round/Discussion <br /> The Public Works Department uses contractors to complete miscellaneous concrete repairs each <br /> year to address failing curb, flatwork, and storm sewer catch basins. While repair work has been <br /> completed in a satisfactory manner in the past, this vendor approach has not included a formal <br /> construction contract to guide the work or a bid component to obtain competitive prices for <br /> concrete repairs. <br /> Staff recently issued a quotation package to five contractors to obtain bids for upcoming concrete <br /> repairs. The work is organized into four areas (Schedules A to D) as shown on the bid tabulation <br /> provided in Attachment A and the location map in Attachment B. <br /> ■ Schedule A, at Venus Ave and Fairview Ave N there is an issue with drainage <br /> conveyance through the intersection and is causing pooling at the Northwest corner of the <br /> intersection. It has been determined that constructing a valley gutter from the Northwest <br /> corner to the Northeast corner will eliminate this issue. <br /> ■ Schedule B, at 1889 Grant Road, driveway apron adjacent to curb is heaving, which was <br /> installed during the 2015 PMP. Property owner was previously informed that City would <br /> repair. Apron would be removed and replaced to correct the heaving issue. <br /> ■ Schedule C, at 1703 Crystal Avenue, cracked driveway panel that was installed during <br /> the 2015 PMP and was never addressed from the project punch list. <br /> Page 1 of 2 <br />
