Based on the results of the first phase study, the second phase would involve field investigation
work to inspect and evaluate the condition of the transmission pipe, the extent of corrosion,
remaining pipe wall thickness and other condition attributes. This information will then guide
development of a plan for recommended rehabilitation and replacement of the transmission main
in the future.
TKDA has assisted Arden Hills with past water main related work, including water main
replacement along Trunk Highway 10 and the pressure reducing station rehabilitation for Arden
Manor. TKDA has experience in evaluating larger diameter cast iron and ductile iron pipelines for
the Metropolitan Council and other agencies.
Budget Impact
The draft 2021-2025 Capital Improvement Program reviewed by the City Council on July 20, 2020
identifies $65,000 for the Trunk Water Main Evaluation project, with funding derived from the
City's water utility. The TKDA proposal provided in Attachment B identifies a consultant fee in
the amount of$29,400 and includes a $5,000 allowance for subcontracting geotechnical field work
to collect and analyze soil samples. Staff recommends approval of the professional services
agreement with TKDA.
Attachments
Attachment A: Location Map
Attachment B: TKDA Proposal
