CONSENT ITEM— 6K
,fi` DEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 24, 2020
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
Dave Perrault, City Administrator
FROM: Todd Blomstrom, Public Works Director/City Engineer
SUBJECT: Round Lake Road Storm Sewer Repairs
Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source:
$11,200.00 $23,600.00 Surface Water Fund
Council Should Consider
Authorization of storm sewer repair work along Round Lake Road by Valley Rich Company in the
amount of$23,600.00.
Back2round/Discussion
An area of significant pavement deterioration has recently developed along Round Lake Road
south of Highway 96 as shown on Attachment A. A sink hole formed near storm sewer catch
basin structure CB-1081 as a result of subgrade material under the road infiltrating into the
structure through voids and cracks in the catch basin. The loss of subgrade material is resulting in
settlement of the pavement surface and formation of a void under the pavement.
An inspection of storm sewer structure CB-1081 shows that the pipe connections to the structure
were not properly completed during original construction. The bottom invert was not installed and
large gaps are visible around the join were the pipe enters the structure. In addition, the adjacent
catch basins CB-1080 and CB-1079 require repairs, including resetting the casting and repairs to
the adjacent curb. Photos showing current conditions are provided in Attachment B.
The repair work will require temporary closure of the southbound lane for Round Lake Road to
complete excavation around the perimeter of the structure and install concrete to repair pipe
connections both outside and inside of CB-1081; reset castings and replace adjacent curb sections
Page 1 of 2
