Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM –1A <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: November 16, 2020 <br /> <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers <br /> <br />FROM: Dave Perrault, City Administrator <br /> <br />SUBJECT: North Suburbs Youth Coalition for Justice Follow Up Discussion <br /> <br /> Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br /> N/A N/A N/A <br /> <br />For Council Consideration <br /> <br />The Council will discuss the presentation given previously by the North Suburbs Youth <br />Coalition for Justice. <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />The Council received a presentation by the North Suburbs Youth Coalition for Justice at its July <br />23, 2020 special work session. The presentation to Council was meant as a listening session, and <br />Council would have a follow up discussion regarding their presentation. This agenda item is an <br />opportunity for Council to consider what the coalition presented, have further discussion as a <br />Council, and provide any necessary direction. The presentation from the coalition is attached <br />(see Attachment A), and below is a summary of the coalition’s requests: <br /> <br />-Improving transparency and accountability for the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, this would <br />include: <br /> -Making departmental policies, such as, use of force available to the public <br /> -Making dispatch and police activity reports public <br /> -Creating a diverse civilian review board <br /> <br />-Use the power of the budget to create change: <br />-Direct a portion of the $1.3 million normally earmarked for the Sheriff’s Department <br />to services, such as, affordable housing, transit, community health and a civilian <br />review board
