Q2 Other Responses - On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being not important and 5 being extremely
important, how important are the following reasons for you to have chickens (laying hens only)?
5 / 81
#IF OTHER, PLEASE SPECIFY.DATE
1 out door birds do not make messes or bring fleas into the house. Caring for the birds is
therapuic for challenged youth and adults. A home for handicapped persons near me could use
birds for therapy. The distance from the hut to the nearest neighboring house should be at least
75 ft. a license should be required and revoked when the odder exceeds the allowed particle
limit set by staff. as it flows onto the neighboring lot.
11/5/2020 12:05 PM
2 It is extremely important to stress the proper care of the chickens...shelter, safety, food/water,
etc. and that it is a big responsibility.
11/5/2020 10:12 AM
3 Pleasurable, peaceful (without the roosters).11/2/2020 9:02 AM
4 Laying hens are quiet. Just no roasters 10/31/2020 9:29 AM
5 We hear they are fun and welcome.10/30/2020 8:02 PM
6 Learning experience for adults.10/29/2020 1:04 PM
7 To have a closer connection animals, and provide good quality of life for the birds. Also, by
having my own chickens as a food source for eggs, I would be eliminating the need to
purchase eggs from sources where the birds quality of life is questionable.
10/29/2020 10:58 AM
8 It is 2020 - this should not be controversial. Large lot sizes make this even less of an issue. 10/28/2020 1:00 PM
9 Our neighbors have chickens and they do not contain their birds within their own property. The
chickens roam around in our yard.
10/28/2020 11:12 AM
10 I don't have any immediate plans for chickens, but I think it is important to understand that
coyotes, fox, hawks, owls are part of the city's "circle of life", and if they get your chicken,
that's life. No killing the animals that prey on your chicken. I don't kill the rabbits that ruin my
garden. I let the circle of life do it for me.
10/27/2020 7:53 PM
11 It's very important for us to know where our food comes from, especially during a pandemic.
They are quieter and more docile than dogs, while improving our health and well being.
10/27/2020 5:56 PM
12 To rid the yard of disease-carrying insects 10/27/2020 12:51 PM
13 chickens eat a lot of bugs and maybe grubs and Japanese beetles, great benefit. Also, the in-
yard hens will probably have a better quality, more humane life. Chicken's lives matter!
10/26/2020 2:01 PM
14 Chickens are very delightful to watch and provide great entertainment!10/24/2020 3:23 PM
15 Part of the natural ecology of our environment- they keep the insect population down , their
droppings are a great fertilizer etc
10/23/2020 9:02 AM
16 pets 10/22/2020 6:12 PM
17 Just as important as having a garden 10/21/2020 11:16 AM
18 For years to come, it will remain easy to buy eggs at the store, but the climate will continually
decline, sad to say. I believe in our community and our country, but in the decades to come,
people may need to become increasingly self-sufficient to survive. Just let the chickens
happen, please.
10/20/2020 9:36 PM
19 I am not interested in having a chicken coop but do not have a problem with others in the city
who wish to do so.
10/20/2020 2:21 PM
20 Remove undesirable insects from the lawn 10/20/2020 9:22 AM
21 I don't raise chickens myself but feel that those people that want to should be able to.10/20/2020 7:24 AM
22 This should NOT be allowed!10/19/2020 1:57 PM
23 They are fun to watch, beautiful, peaceful and calming. I think backyard chickens would add a
nice ambience to our neighborhood.
10/19/2020 8:25 AM
24 I personally do not care but can appreciate others might.10/18/2020 1:19 PM
25 It is extremely important to families who want to have a greener lifestyle, to educate their
children on chickens and responsibilities, to get closer to the source of eggs, and to enrich the
lives of those who own them.
10/18/2020 12:25 PM
