Chic k ens are a great way to have fresh, local eggs. They are an excellent way for kids t o learn about animals. To be very honest we all know people hav e chickens already in the city and they aren’t a problem. They are SIGNIFICANTLY les s disruptive than the three or four regularly barking dogs in my neighborhood. I’m in f avor of s oftening the rules f or chickens and some of the other c ritters on the c ity page. Unlike dogs who are everywhere, bark day and night, deficate where and when they choos e (somet imes pic k ed up be the owners and somet imes not). We moved out of the city to get away f rom the c hickens . They attract farell c ats , fox es, coyotes, bobcat s and other urban predators . Do not relax the standards.
