Egg production turned out to be overwhelming and they abandoned the projec t after about 18 mont hs. To this day their two daughters will not eat poultry. If we had a more rural, widely s pac ed and k nowledgeable agriculturally founded communit y it might work fine. Ev en with all that s pace c hick ens from neighboring homes were loud and uns ight ly, and occasionally running throughout the neighborhood. 10/21/2020 3:46 PM 58 We did it for just the eggs for our family and pets for our c hildren. No sales , no food s afety iss ues , very s mall scale. My y es res ponse is for someone with 1-5 c hickens , not for s omeone with a whole flock, which might be what is meant by urban farming -- in which case I don't support it. All animals escape. Neighbor with chickens was outside ex tra lat e and early (about 3-4am) to tend chic k ens & c ollect eggs which meant bac k yard & patio lights were turned on which shone into neighbors hous e awaking them up, compounding with the early morning hen noises the neighbors ended up sparring and dis lik ing each ot her and recruiting t he other neighbors to pick sides . Another pers on I k now told me one home had chic kens and the all neighbors disliked the noise & smell s o much the stat ed protests until the c hickens were gone & ordinance changed bac k t o prohibit chic k ens. 10/21/2020 7:56 AM 62 Chickens can be mean to each other, and other animals and humans .10/20/2020 9:04 PM 63 A neighbor across the s treet had chickens (in a neighboring s uburb).
