Bac kyard Chic kens Survey
22 / 81
64 weren't k ept clean 10/20/2020 7:51 PM
65 They had chic k ens for some time and then quit bec ause of the amount of work needed.10/20/2020 6:49 PM
66 They are c lean, eat scraps and bugs, and are not noisy. I s ee no negatives. Dogs are more
trouble than chickens.
10/20/2020 5:11 PM
67 A neighbor of ours kept c hic k ens for awhile a few years back. Never c aused any problems for
us.
10/20/2020 2:21 PM
68 Our neighbors had chickens. They were fun to watc h, helped k eep bugs down and seemed
nic e enough. They oc c as ionally wandered into our yard and pooped on our deck, whic h wasn't
great and we saw a lot more raccoons and predators t han we were used to. Overall a neutral-
to-good experience. We liked getting eggs.
10/20/2020 1:57 PM
69 Very dirty animals. Need a lot of maint enance to k eep s anit ary condit ions in a suburban
neighborhood. A lot of work for a few eggs. Not ec onomical.
10/20/2020 1:13 PM
70 When done c orrectly and taking care to ens ure proper enc losures and c leaning it is a great way
to hav e a source of food.
10/20/2020 12:55 PM
71 My friend in New Brighton has chic k ens that s he has for eggs. It's her favorite food and she
likes having chickens .
10/20/2020 7:24 AM
72 Continued raids by raccoons , coyotes and fox .10/19/2020 9:07 PM
73 I've only heard positiv e feedbac k from our friends who have urban chickens .10/19/2020 7:39 PM
74 They are loud and stink.10/19/2020 6:27 PM
75 Two friends have lay ing hens they are docile quiet and seem to add to t he peoples quality of
life. I know the neighbors in one instance and they hav e no problem with the birds.
10/19/2020 6:14 PM
76 Many neighbors and friends in St. Paul had them. No iss ues . I loved the roost ers crowing too
actually
10/19/2020 6:10 PM
77 They are not kept c lean regularly. Even after a day the smell bec omes noticeable.10/19/2020 4:50 PM
78 There were problessed with raccoons and lots of noise.10/19/2020 4:28 PM
79 I grew up in a rural sett ing raising c hic k ens for eggs, my parents als o butchered chic kens from
time to time. I speak from experience when I say chickens are uns anitary and off ensiv ely
smelling, the fowl are foul. Chic k ens are loud and can be destruc tive. I c hoose to live in a
suburban setting where this type hobby is not prac ticed in small s paces. Keeping c hickens is
not the s ame as growing a garden. If they are left outside through the winter the was te freezes
and builds up then has to be dealt wit h when thaw comes and by that time it's really ripe.
Any one who wants to know what t hey're in for should v isit a poultry farm. In fact, I sugges t city
council members vis it a poultry farm prior t o v oting on this issue.
10/19/2020 4:26 PM
80 I had no idea my neighbor kept c hick ens when I lived in St Louis Park until I was on my roof
and look ing into his yard. Maybe not allowing c hickens (like s lp at the time) would mak e people
really c areful? (kidding, s ort of) it was a pos itive experience for me, he gav e me eggs af ter that
10/19/2020 3:37 PM
81 Friends in New Brighton keep laying hens and hav e had very positiv e ex periences. Good f or
the kids. Nice to give neighbors some eggs. Promotes community and s ustainable liv ing.
10/19/2020 2:40 PM
82 Yes I hav e a friend and his spouse who k eep c hickens and they are a mes s, loud, and t he
coops are distrac ting from t heir property value and the v alue of their neighbors. DO NOT
ALLOW THI S!
10/19/2020 1:57 PM
83 A friend of mine has kept c hickens and it was a positive ex perience f or her family, children and
thos e who s he s hared the eggs with. Creating the c oop was a family project , as was caring for
the chickens .
10/19/2020 1:19 PM
84 ORGANI C FOOD SOURCE FOR FAMILIES; GREAT EDUCATION FOR KIDS 10/19/2020 12:47 PM
85 I have not k ept t hem myself, not do I plan to, but I k now several people who keep chic k ens in
nearby c it ies with no is sues.
10/19/2020 12:00 PM
86 Knew s omeone that had them. Enclos ure was priv ate and well controlled, t hey were well
educated but still had a s mell and attracted wildlif e.
10/19/2020 11:31 AM
