Bac kyard Chic kens Survey
27 / 81
184 My neighbor lef t her c hickens run all ov er my y ard eve that we told t hem to keep their c hicken
away f rom our hous e
10/15/2020 4:26 PM
185 It was my neighbor and I got the freshes t eggs. Nothing like them 10/15/2020 4:13 PM
186 A friend in the area had c hic k ens. Enjoyed t he eggs and the experience.10/15/2020 4:09 PM
187 Fresh eggs, keeps bug population down and neighborhood kids loved learning about the
lifec y c le.
10/15/2020 4:08 PM
188 no negative experienc e. great food for the c oy otes 10/15/2020 4:02 PM
189 Chickens need very s ecure enc losures to keep them s afe from c oyot es. The coy otes can dig
under fences and will attack chic k ens. Chic k ens may inc reas e the coyote populations around
the area too which is dangerous to small dogs and other animals .
10/15/2020 4:00 PM
190 A neighbor used to have 2 or 3 hens, They were kept in a c age, bothered no one, and it was
fun to hear t heir cackle when they would lay an egg. Nothing negative about it.
10/15/2020 3:58 PM
191 Mos tly positiv e ex periences. The eggs are great! The only issue I hav e seen if they're are not
properly wat ched after foxes will get after the c hickens and kill them.
10/15/2020 3:22 PM
192 When I was growing up, my friend on Hamline avenue had chickens . They always had eggs
and they were sooo fres h.
10/15/2020 3:22 PM
193 Urban chic k ens are no different than rural farms that als o rais e c hickens for food and eggs.
They require care, are mess y and make nois e and can t rans mit disease jus t as any animal
that roams around. People get ideas for "what a great idea" they would mak e as pets and lay
eggs - then when the thrill wears off they are dumped off somewhere or let loos e - to fend for
thems elves, never caring if t hey s urv ive or not. I grew up in a farming family and the farm is
where chic k ens and food producing animals belong.
10/15/2020 2:19 PM
194 Sev eral friends with c hickens ; all hav e had pos itiv e experiences. They have had no v ermin or
unsanitariness. The fresh eggs from a known s ourc e is v ery appreciated.
10/15/2020 1:54 PM
195 My daughter has had c hick ens for about 5 years in ros ev ille. So great for fresh eggs , great
teac hing t ool for my grandc hildren. Life, death. Caring for an animal, cleaning out the c oop.
They are not nois y at all, roosters yes but not hens. It's been a win win all around.
10/15/2020 1:49 PM
196 Yes we'v e k nown tons of people who have kept c hickens . Only positiv e ex periences from fresh
eggs to learning experienc es for k ids. and I'm surprised to learn it's not allowed in Arden Hills,
this seems unnecessarily res trictiv e.
10/15/2020 1:47 PM
197 Early morning rooster calls. Als o, was not k ept up well, a mess.10/15/2020 12:45 PM
198 They enjoyed the experience, liked the fresh eggs.10/15/2020 12:39 PM
199 I have never had them my s elf.10/15/2020 10:53 AM
200 I had a positiv e ex perience with chickens and brings us out side yo enjoy nature.10/15/2020 10:36 AM
201 They shared eggs, the children had respons ibilities, and the food source for us was exc ellent
in that the c hick ens ate healthy food s craps . Commercial c hickens ’ diet is much less
nutritional which trickles down to egg qualit y.
10/15/2020 9:37 AM
202 My brother kept them on his small South Minneapolis property. There was no issues with the
chic k ens or the neighbors or any thing.
10/15/2020 9:31 AM
203 The families I know who hav e or have had chic k ens have really enjoyed the ex perience.
Children learn about animal hus bandry and hav e t he res ponsibility of c aring for s omeone and
enjoy bonding with the birds and every one enjoy s the eggs. A s mall downs ide is the
consideration that has to be tak en towards keeping the birds s afe from predators.
10/15/2020 9:18 AM
204 None 10/15/2020 8:43 AM
205 It was jus t calming to see them...not unlike having a pet bird in a c age 10/15/2020 8:20 AM
206 The home where I pic k ed up my week ly CSA v egetables (c ommunity s upported agriculture)
this summer had 4 or 5 c hickens in the back yard. Sometimes they were roaming freely in the
fenc ed-in yard, and sometimes they were in their coop. They were all different, and all
beautiful! My fiv e year old grand daughter was delighted by them!
10/15/2020 8:07 AM
