Bac kyard Chic kens Survey
35 / 81
eggs, teach kids about animals and conservat ion
360 We hav e friends just across County Rd D in New Brighton t hat hav e chickens . Great
experienc e for k ids and all their neighbors enjoy them as well. Als o, have friends in
Minneapolis who have c hick ens . Same experienc e. They are a fun hobby with little affect to
the neighbors around them. Again, ever person I k now who has had chic k ens...the neighbors
enjoy it as well.
10/5/2020 2:45 PM
361 Nothing negative to say 10/5/2020 2:39 PM
362 Great for k ids to learn from, our neighbors enjoyed some free eggs here and there, we loved
having eggs daily. Bec aus e we raised the chicks from a very young age they were well-
socializ ed and friendly. Our dog and chic kens were friends. You do have to build your coop
properly for winter and for k eeping out predators; if you do so you won't have any problems.
10/5/2020 2:37 PM
363 Great learning experience for c hildren, good companions, quiet and unbelievably tast y eggs 10/5/2020 2:36 PM
364 It’s been a great ex perience with fres h eggs for ev eryone (inc luding neighbors)10/5/2020 2:34 PM
365 All positiv e. Ev ery one I k now in Roseville, Minneapolis , and St Paul has had pos itive
experienc es with c hic k ens.
10/5/2020 2:32 PM
366 As long as t hey are penned up, chic k ens don't pose any problems other than a little ex tra
nois e. But we live in a c it y where there is nois e all the time. Quite frank ly, they are less of a
problem than all the dogs that are freely allowed!
10/5/2020 2:30 PM
367 Sev eral family members and friends who liv e in s uburbs hav e had hens for y ears without
trouble or complaint . They are peacef ul animals. Keep mos quitos and wood tick populations
down. Provide eggs to many. And hav e more personality than most c ats & dogs !
10/5/2020 2:30 PM
368 The eggs were delicious!10/5/2020 2:28 PM
369 The families that I know who have k ept chickens have enjoyed the chickens, enjoy ed hav ing
fresh eggs, and apprec iated the opportunity for their c hildren t o learn the importance of hard
work. It’s rewarding to s ee the animals that y ou take care of provide you wit h food.
10/5/2020 2:28 PM
370 They are v ery quiet (no roos ters) and t he benefits of supporting a greener lifes ty le and healthier
diets are so wonderful.
10/5/2020 2:27 PM
371 It was great! Fresh eggs from a source we totally controlled. Eas y maintenance, v irtually
silent, and unique pers onalities. We only gav e them away becaus e we moved to Arden Hills.
10/5/2020 2:26 PM
372 Biggest thing would be setting clear expectation of the coop requirements . Same color of
house. It has to look presentable. No hac k job fencing and tarps.
10/5/2020 2:26 PM
373 ZERO Is sues.10/5/2020 2:25 PM
374 We hav e friends who k eep c hickens . They are friendly, eas y to c are for, and their kids have an
enriching hobby. As ide from an oc casional predator scare, they have only had pos itive
experienc es as a family.
10/5/2020 2:24 PM
375 You get out of chickens what you put in. I enjoyed tending to them. I especially enjoyed how
they would eat our f ood s craps s o we had less week ly waste.
10/5/2020 2:09 PM
376 A friend of mine kept c hickens and hav ing fresh eggs , and giving her children res ponsibilities
in taking care of them were both things she has c ommented on. I don't pers onally plan to rais e
chic k ens, but feel our city shouldn't prev ent citizens from k eeping them, espec ially if their
immediate neighbors approv e and t hat they follow the guidelines set by t he c it y. Other
surrounding towns allow chickens and we can look to their rules and permitting guidelines to
come up wit h a solid plan for our own town.
10/5/2020 2:06 PM
377 Quiet, easy to k eep in y our yard or enclosure, adds a res ponsibilit y for k ids without needing to
leav e hous e to walk a dog
10/5/2020 2:04 PM
378 Folk s I k now that hav e had t hem lose interest quickly, especially when they hav e to figure out
what do with them during the winter.
10/5/2020 2:02 PM
379 Pos itive experienc e - fresh eggs, pos itiv e learning act ivity f or kids (and adults !) and good pets 10/5/2020 1:58 PM
380 One neighbor had difficulty keeping them penned up. They were in the streets and neighbor's
yards. Another k ept them properly fenced and housed in a coop but a c arnivore s till managed
10/5/2020 11:56 AM
