Q5 Other Responses - If guidelines are written to allow chickens (laying hens), what
restrictions do you think are important for the City to consider?
38 / 81
#OTHER (PLEASE SPECIFY)DATE
1 smell sensor for odder, so the license is not arbitrary.11/5/2020 12:05 PM
2 Not sure if permission is required...maybe inform and submit neighbor input and mitigation of
concerns plan to get a permit. We should be taking not stay anonymous behind forms etc.
11/5/2020 11:50 AM
3 If all of the above guidelines are in order, then we imagine that neighbors might be in
agreement. However, the chickens may well attract wild animals to the area as an attractive
food source.
11/5/2020 10:12 AM
4 Roosters and their noise are the only problem I can envision. My neighbors are conscientious
people.
11/4/2020 9:43 PM
5 Keep the city out of it. They just finally figured out a regulation when you can put your trash
can out and when it should be taken in by - ridiculous.
11/3/2020 1:57 PM
6 Peace between neighbors and owners of chickens. Dispute resolution if possible. Appropriate
size of coop for chickens.
11/2/2020 9:02 AM
7 Backyard only with a 6 foot solid type fence mandatory. Minimum of at least 20 feet from
property lines.
11/1/2020 1:44 PM
8 Restrictions would not be enforced without much grief and harm to the community. All I have
seen is uneven enforcement of every other guideline.
11/1/2020 10:23 AM
9 None 10/31/2020 9:29 AM
10 Fence is neighbor requests it. I don't mind if my neighbor wants chickens but I don't want to
see them.
10/28/2020 1:40 PM
11 Our neighbors have chickens and they do not contain their birds within their own property. The
chickens roam around in our yard. It is annoying and unsanitary
10/28/2020 11:12 AM
12 Permission needed from neighbors if less than a minimum distance, which would probably
apply to most quarter acre or less properties.
10/27/2020 7:53 PM
13 No roosters. And a limit to the number of hens per capita of household size.10/27/2020 5:56 PM
14 It's important to allow chickens free range if the yard is properly fenced. Established, well-
cared for flocks will stay within boundaries without issues. They should have a coop for safety,
shelter, & nesting but allowed to roam during daylight hours to scavenge for bugs, pebbles,
etc. Free range makes for happy chickens.
10/27/2020 3:52 PM
15 None 10/27/2020 12:33 PM
16 Fencing for chicken coops and run areas to provide safety for the chickens 10/26/2020 12:18 PM
17 If neighbors support someone who wishes to raise chickens, location and set back restrictions
seem unnecessary. Cleanliness standards could be an effective way to address problems if
they should arise, but that standard would need to be well written and equally well enforced.
10/25/2020 5:12 PM
18 Maximum # of chickens 10/23/2020 9:02 AM
19 I think the city should also look at how many people currently have chickens in a particular
block/mile radius and limit the number of people who can have them based on that as well.
10/23/2020 7:43 AM
20 I would be concerned if the coops/run areas were too small 10/22/2020 4:41 PM
21 Mandatory education and annual inspection for permit. Random checks to assure well-being of
the animals. Zero tolerance for cruelty, significant civil penalties for all other violations.
10/21/2020 7:58 PM
22 limit on number of adult birds.10/21/2020 1:54 PM
23 Limit on number of chickens / laying hens that can be kept and rules prohibiting to collection of
eggs or maintenance on coops outside of reasonable hours to minimize noise levels before
daylight hours.
10/21/2020 7:56 AM
24 Obviously, chickens shouldn’t be able to just run everywhere. However, as long as people take
care of their chickens, screen them off, and get permission to keep them, I don’t see the
problem.
10/20/2020 9:36 PM
