1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />POSITION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />Position Title: Community Development Director <br />Department: Community Development <br />Accountable to: City Administrator <br />Positions Supervised: Building Official, City Planner, Associate PlannerSenior Planner <br />Status: Regular Full Time <br /> June 2015July <br />2021 <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVES <br />Performs complex professional work managing and directing all planning, building inspection, code enforcement, <br />and community development activities, identifying public-private partnerships for new economic opportunities, <br />assisting in the daily City operations, assuring compliance with City policies, goals and programs, and related <br />work as apparent or assigned. This is a unique and dynamic position where the person in this role will spend <br />approximately 50% of the time on the responsibilities of Community Development and 50% of the time as the <br />City Planner. Responsible for overall planning duties and delegates work to the Senior Planner. This person in <br />this role will be expected to think big picture for the City but also handle detailed planning work on a day-to-day <br />basis. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the City Administrator. Departmental <br />supervision is exercised over Building Official, Associate Planner and City Plannerand Senior Planner. Limited <br />oversight is exercised over the Building and Code Enforcement Inspector. <br />QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS <br />To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. <br />The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable <br />accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION <br />Serves as the principal planner and zoning administrator for the City of Arden Hills. <br /> <br />Performs hands-on detailed technical planning work on planning cases and delegates planning activities to the <br />Senior Planner as appropriate; this position will be expected to handle planning cases from beginning to end. <br />This will include, but not be limited to, review of PUD’s, CUP’s, variances, Comprehensive Plan Amendments. <br /> <br />Receives and processes zoning and land use applications, completes detailed analysis for conformity with City <br />Codes, prepares case files, coordinates publication of notices to property owners as necessary, and presents <br />cases to Planning Commission and the City Council. <br /> <br />Oversees and coordinates community development activities, providing technical and administrative assistance <br />to property owners, promoting development and redevelopment activities, and assists in the marketing of <br />properties within the City; responsible for identifying and managing the elements essential to the success of all <br />aspects of Economic Development and (re)development projects. <br /> <br />Serves as staff liaison to the Economic Development Commission and Executive Director at the Economic <br />Development Authority. <br />
