CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: June 17, 1997
TO: Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM: Cindy S. Walsh, Parks and Recreation Director
SUBJECT: June Agenda Report
We will be meeting at City Hall at 6:00 p.m. for a short meeting before beginning our park
tours.
Highway 96 Trail Options
I would like the commission to examine the options for trail development along Highway 96 in
Arden Hills. We discussed the two possibilities at last months meeting. The first option is to
continue the trail along Highway 96 to Old Hwy 8 thru the Highway 10 intersection and the 3 5 W
bridge. The second option would bring the trail down North Snelling Avenue, across Highway
10 using a pedestrian bridge, along the south side of Round Lake, and across 3 5 W using the
existing railroad bridge (if it is abandoned). This option has been proposed because of safety
concerns along Hwy 96 and over the 35W bridge. I would like a recommendation from the
Commission on which option they would promote. This recommendation would be passed on to
Ramsey County along with recommendations from the City Council, Hwy 96 Task Force, and
the Public Safety Commission.
Department Report
I have enclosed a copy of a letter we received regarding play structure equipment at Freeway
Park. The equipment at Freeway is not currently a priority for replacement. We may want to
consider moving that structure up a few years to 1999. The Commission can further discuss this
under Department Reports or when we tour Freeway Park.
I will bring along a copy of the park and trail map for all of you as well as the tentative play
structure replacement schedule. Please let me know if there is anything else you need to aid in
your evaluation for future development of the park areas.
July and August Meeting Schedule
Please check your vacation schedules and decide if you want to meet in July and August.
40
