BERNARD A. ORTT
MARY J. ORTT
1419 ARDEN PLACE
ARDEN HILLS, MN 55112
PHONE (612) 636-4526
May 24, 1997
To: Arden Hills Park&Recreation Committee
Re: Freeway Park Playground Equipment
We would like to bring to your attention the aging playground equipment at Freeway
Park. Cindy Walsh explained that this park is not scheduled for upgraded equipment
in the near future. We would like to request the Committee research the possibility of
replacing the existing deteriorating equipment during 1997.
We have lived on Arden Place.the street which leads directly to Freeway Park, since
1991. In six years we have seen the neighborhood transition from one of mainly retired
couples to one of young families. On Arden Place alone, sixteen children currently
reside—along with an in-home daycare.
While playing at the park this Spring, our 22 month old son has fallen off the steep
metal slide, gotten slivers from the structure.tripped over the uneven,creosote-covered
timbers which enclose the structure. and creaking in the overhead stabilizer beam is
heard while he is swinging. Thus equipment is simply not up-to-date and is becoming a
danger to our young children. In fact. the park does not offer much to young children
other than one swing! Neighbors who have lived in the neighborhood longer than us
shared with us that equipment such as a tennis wall and spring loaded riding toys were
removed from the park and never replaced.
Please take our request into consideration for the 1997 season. In an effort to reduce
costs we could gather neighborhood volunteers to help with the installation of the new,
safer equipment.
Thank you in advance for your attention to our request. We can be contacted at the
address or phone number listed.
Sincerely,
LA jAzIt.
Bernard&Mary Ortt
