Expanded Afterschool Programs
The increased number of mothers joining the work force
leaves many children home alone both before and after
school .
Parents are looking for programs that would be a form of
supplementary day care. At this time, the YMCA is offer-
ing programs both before and after school in a day care
type fashion. I don't feel we need to duplicate this;
but instead, enhance the options available to parents . I
feel we can offer "specialty" classes lasting between 1 &
2 hours beginning immediately after the regular school
day.
A. Elementary Schools
Classes offered during the 1990-91 school year were a
huge success. The most popular class being Sports
Hour for grades K-2 . Future programming will include
similar classes which were offered this past year as
well as these possibilities: Drawing, Karate, Clown-
ing, Kids Around the World, Sport Specific classes
for grades 4 & 5 (wrestling, basketball, volleyball,
Isfloor hockey) , Cross Country Ski lessons, Knitting or
Crocheting.
