4. Hoc keys Currently, Perry Park and Freeway Park have hockey facilities. The Johanna Middle School facility can be used only on weekends for prac- tice. The Mounds Vier, High School facility is not in suitable condition for use. The Freeway Park hockey facility wlII not be used for League games but rather for neighborhood activities and practices. We recom- mend a rink suitable for league games be added at Hazelnut Park where parking could be available at Trinity Church (subject to negotiation) . We anticipate & maximum of three hockey areas will be needed as Arden Hills becomes fully developed. When the third rink becomes necessary, we have several option : 1 . Improve the lighting at Johanna Middle School . 2. - Upgrade the fighting and boards at Mounds View and add a shelter. 3. Add lights and shelter and make a temporary rink on the soft- balI field at Cum inns Park. 4. Improve lighting and increase shelter facilities at Perry Park and add an additional rink. The specific choice will depend upon Council action. However, in light of past decisions, we are including the Cummings Park option in our recommended ten year plan. 5. Tennis Courts There are currently nineteen tennis courts within Arden Hills (exclud- ing the tennis club) , located at Mounds View High School (4) , Pemton (4) , Johanna k!iddle School (4) , Bethel Col legs (6) , and Arden Manor ( I ). It should be noted that the four tennis courts at the Villages of Arden Hills are not available for public use, and the six courts at Bethnal College are scheduled through the Y.M.C.A. for a fee, leaving nine actual public courts. It is difficult to determine whether the current level of Interest in tennis will be maintained. If so, more courts may have to be added in the future. Possible sites are Freeway Park (2) and Cummings Park (2). RecoarK.ndation of additional courts will not be made until increased demand/need becomes apparent. Space will be reserved for future courts. 6. Volleyball Equipment We recommend that volleyball equipment be installed at the neighborhood parks. A variety of court surfaces are available: I . The existing or proposed hard surface areas may be used. 2. Sand courts may be used. We recommend installation of one sand court to determine Its acceptance in this region of the country. 3. Grass courts may be used.
