MnUrE.S OF = ARDEN HILLS PARKS AND RECiZ=CN CM4ISSIaN - TUESDAY, APRIL 28, 1992 <br /> PAGE 2 <br /> • To serve the people of Arden Hills by providing a comprehensive, well maintained <br /> system of parks, trails, facilities and open space, and a balanced, well organized <br /> program of recreational activities. <br /> After considerable discussion, the commission added the word affordable before the <br /> words recreational activities. <br /> Ricke moved/seconded by Guelker that the Arden Hills Park and Recreation Commission <br /> recomT end to the Council that the revised Mission Statement be incorporated with the <br /> goals and objectives stated in the City's Park Comprehensive Park Plan. Motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br /> MISC.INEW BUSINESS: <br /> Buckley reported: <br /> Park Dept. sponsored Arbor Day Celebrations on Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April <br /> 25. Eight youth groups participated by: <br /> Cleaning up parks and trails <br /> ° Planting twelve 1 1/2 inch potted Ash trees <br /> Planted over 450 seedlings <br /> Activities took place in Cunnings Park and Trail, Floral Park, Perry Park, Crepeau <br /> Park and Chatham Open Area. <br /> Flower Gardens are scheduled to be planted on Saturday, May 16. The schedules are: <br /> 8:00 AM Breakfast for volunteers at McGuires. <br /> 9:00 AM Planting Instructions. <br /> 9:30 AM Planting of County Road E gardens and Gateway gardens. <br /> More volunteers are needed to plant and care for Gateway beds. <br /> Commission reviewed the street banner designs and was divided in selection of banner <br /> design. <br /> Rotary Clubs of Roseville, Arden Hills/Shoreview and New Brighton will be sponsoring <br /> a Bike-aJlhon to raise money for the DARE Drug Program. <br /> The 1992 Bike-a�Ihon for DARE is a 17 mile ride for Roseville and Mounds View area <br /> students (3rd through 8th grades) and their parents. The bike route will go through <br /> Roseville, Shoreview, Arden Hills, and New Brighton. Several thousand youths and <br /> adults are expected to participate. <br /> chair David sand introduced David Cathcart to the coamission. <br /> Mr. Cathcart stated that he is a landscape architectural student at the University <br /> of Minnesota. He is working on a design for "Future Floral Park" as part of his <br /> requirement for graduation. The Commission invited Mr. Cathcart to review his <br /> design at their next meeting. <br /> NEXT NEETIM: <br /> The next meeting will be May 19, 1992, at 7:30 PM at the City Hall. <br /> • Memorial Day is May 25 and will cause Council to move their meeting to Tuesday, May <br /> 26. <br />
