• • Perry Fields 3 and 4 (north end of park) need to be regraded.
Originally planned for 1993 but delayed. Parkway road will also be
repaved with cost coming out of City maintenance and storm
water/utility budget. Best to do both projects at same time. Work to
be done in late summer or early fall 1994 after softball season ends.
Initial cost estimate is $25,000 - $30,000 with seeding. If sod, would
cost more. Also need to correct poor drainage on north fields.
• Cindy will also look into repairing base of fence on upper (south end)
ball fields to eliminate lost balls during play.
• Flower garden upgrade estimate of$3,000. Special attention should be
given to the one at Lexington and County Road E.
• Final action on items on 1994 expenditure Iist must be taken by
November meeting.
• One member suggested that he assumed Park & Recreation was
spending a certain amount every year that included principal and
interest. Others felt that if less of principal is used (especially in view
of fewer future park dedications), there will be more available for park
maintenance later - as well as development.
• • McClung expressed need to complete trail development and will likely
require some use of principal in order to fulfill commitment to citizens
to develop trails.
• Probst mentioned availability of federal grant dollars for surface
transportation, including trails. Funds are in the form of matching
grants. Program proposals are key to obtaining funding. Also, future
development of Tony Schmit Park, scheduled for redevelopment in
approximately two years, may generate trail improvement.
• Anticipate Light Brigade charitable gambling to generate$1,000/month
for park development fund. There are also minor park dedication
funds anticipated for 1994-95.
• Will be competing with City's focus on obtaining land for City Hall and
Public Works Building. Currently $1 million set aside for City Hall
building only.
• Ricke believes more interest ought to be generated in developing park
and ball fields on Arsenal property, even if it involves a larger
referendum. Need to convince public of recreation needs - may be
more support for this than City Hall.
