B. Trail around Round Lake
There has been a developer interested in developing part of the City's gateway business
district. I would like the Committee to discuss possible park dedication for this
development. It is important that the City obtain areas for trail development around
Round Lake as our trail plan indicates. I will bring the plan to the meeting to show the
Committee the area that appears to be developing in the near future.
The City has also had some discussions with the residents who live along the east side of
Round Lake abutting Old Hwy 10 as part of connecting these homes to City water. As a
result of this discussion, several property owners made it clear that they do not want a
trail along Old Hwy 10 abutting their property. This was an area that both the Committee
and I identified for future trail development. The County is doing some construction on
Old Hwy 10 this summer and is planning to add four foot shoulders on both sides of the
road. This will provide a better area for walkers and bikers than currently exists.
C. Winter maintenance of trails and sidewalks
The Public Works and Safety Committee is reviewing the possibility of clearing the trails
and sidewalks in the winter. The Public Works Superintendent, Dwanye Stafford has had
information in the Focus newspaper requesting input on this matter. Both the Committee
and he need to hear from you and other residents who want these areas cleared for use
during the summer. Please spread to word to your friends and neighbors.
4. Perry Park Update
• A. The Grand Re-Opening was a success. Thank you for all of your help!! The event would
not have been possible without you.
B. The Committee's general consensus was to choose the structure from Landscape
Structures (EFA). I have asked them to delete a few items and add another climbing
apparatus. They have done that. We need to discuss location of the structure. I have
done some research on netting to protect the area from foul balls. I will share this with
the Committee at the meeting.
5. The Committee needs to decide if they want to meet in July and August.
6. Tony Schmidt Park Update
The County HRA has awarded funds for the Lake McCarrons County Park
redevelopment. This apparently will free up 1997 County CIP funds for projects such as
Lake Johanna(Tony Schmidt) County Park redevelopment. I contacted Greg Mack to
clarify this item and Mr. Mack confirmed that Lake Johanna ranks high in the County
CIP process. This in no way guarantees funding for the project in 1997. Staff had
recently discussed holding a neighborhood meeting for the purpose of discussing this
project. It may be more appropriate for Mayor Probst to send a letter to the County Board
supporting the project and, if necessary, hold the public meeting in August or September
during budget discussions. Mayor Probst concurs with this and is in the process of
sending a letter to the County Commissioners confirming the City's strong feelings about
redeveloping the park in 1997.
