Arden Hills Parks,Trails and Recreation Cornnuttee Meeting Minutes 7 <br /> March 26, 2002 <br /> Mr. Moore stated that ADA is a component of the study and that it is a concern. He stated that <br /> he found that the play structures are ADA compliant noting the replacement cost is not as much <br /> as they originally thought. He explained that they should determine if the ramps meet <br /> requirements. He agreed that ADA is a concern but not as much of a financial need. <br /> Committee Member Messerly asked about the ball fields at Perry. Mr. Moore stated that they are <br /> in trouble stating that two out of the 42 managers are wheelchair bound and cannot get out to the <br /> fields. <br /> Committee Member Crassweller stated that this is one of the reasons why he wants Staff to <br /> develop the budget plan as they already know the issues and what needs to be identified. <br /> Committee Member Messerly clarified that they are not going to deal with the top three at this <br /> time. Chair Straumann confirmed and suggested that the Committee consider their top three <br /> items for the next meeting noting that they are missing several members. <br /> The Committee agreed by consensus to wait with their discussion until the next meeting. Chair <br /> Straumann suggested that all members bring three to five priorities,with a brief description to the <br /> next work session for discussion. <br /> B. Tom Moore—Parks Uydate <br /> Mr. Moore provided the Committee with an update stating that they have another Eagle Scout <br /> Project. He encouraged the Committee to send any new projects his way. He explained that <br /> David Abraham, a student at Moundsview, is going to clean out the birdhouses. He stated that <br /> they had some vandalism to some of the houses and David is going to repair some of the houses, <br /> replace those that are not repairable and build some additional. He provided an update on the <br /> Adopt a Flower Garden Project stating that they have had a good return response rate. He stated <br /> that he needs Barb and Mary to assist in the coordination of volunteers. He stated that they are <br /> converting three of the gardens to perennials and that they have been working with Dayton's on <br /> the design. He stated that the garden located at the main intersection of Lexington and County <br /> Road E will have a patriotic theme of red,white and blue flowers,planted in tiers and located at <br /> both corners. He stated that the Arden Hills Nursery would be supplying the plants again this <br /> year and reminded the Committee that the PTRC garden is located at County Road E and <br /> Lexington, Arden plaza side of street. <br /> Mr. Moore stated that letters have been sent regarding the Community Vegetable Garden and that <br /> they have a letter of agreement with NSP to utilize the area. He stated that they have <br /> approximately 20 people that work this garden. He stated that all interiors of the warming houses <br /> have been painted. He stated that fertilizer has been ordered and contracts are in place. He stated <br /> that two employees, Dave Winkel and Scott Frieberger, are presently attending the Shade Tree <br /> Certification session. He noted that they have a caterpillar infestation at one of the parks and that <br /> they are taking care of the problem. He stated that they have initiated a street sweeping process <br /> for paved trails in addition to the streets. <br />
