Arden Hills Parks,Trails and Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes 3 <br /> August 24,2002 <br /> • Committee Member Crassweller expressed concerns regarding the disregard for safety when <br /> walking the main thoroughfares noting that many walk with the traffic versus against the traffic. <br /> He stated that he has asked for an article in the park newsletter. He stated that it has never been <br /> included. He encouraged the Committee to consider this issue and asked that a small statement <br /> be included asking that residents walk facing the traffic. Mr. Moore confirmed that they are now <br /> including a small statement in the Arden Hills newsletter. <br /> Committee Member Henry stated that a principle issue to consider is the speed on Lake Johanna <br /> Boulevard. <br /> 2. HCM—Preliminary Design Drawings <br /> Jerry Hagen and Matt Lysne, Hagen & Christensen&McIlwain Architects provided the <br /> Committee with a packet of information for their review. <br /> Mr. Moore stated that this is the first time the Committee has had an opportunity to review the <br /> new sign design. <br /> Mr. Hagen stated that he had revisited the parks and reviewed each park with the Committee. He <br /> explained that he chose to visit the four tier one parks noting that Valentine Park would be a <br /> good project for the next tier down. <br /> Mr. Lysne reviewed each park site plan with the Committee. <br /> • ❖ He reviewed the site plan map and new building layout with the Committee. He stated that <br /> the building is very similar in layout to the pavilion at Tony Schmidt Park. <br /> ❖ Committee reviewed each park beginning with Charles Perry Park. <br /> ❖ Mr. Lysne discussed the approach into the parks and the view of the main park building, <br /> adjacent buildings and the lake noting the prairie style structure. <br /> J g g p tY <br /> ❖ He suggested that the play structure and building should form the outdoor space area. He <br /> stated that it would incorporate the paths and trails throughout the park. <br /> Chair Straumann asked if they have identified dollars. Mr. Hagen stated that they have nothing <br /> is available but could provide further information. <br /> Committee Member Crassweller asked if parking had been downsized. Mr. Moore clarified that <br /> the parking is not affected and reviewed the location of the parking lot with the Committee. <br /> Chair Straumann asked for clarification of the lighting. Mr. Moore reviewed the park lighting <br /> with the Committee. <br /> Mr. Lynse explained that the intent of the building is to create a warming area that could be <br /> opened in the summer. He further explained that the building is almost the same size (without <br /> toilets included) as smaller picnic shelter at Tony Schmidt Park. <br /> Mr. Moore stated that Cummings Park could move up on the priority list as Guidant has offered <br /> • to assist in building this facility. <br /> Mr. Moore asked for feedback on the design and building location. <br />
