The orientation was a very important intoduction to the structure and
philosophy of AH Parks. It provided an opportunity to meet one another and
become familiar with the job. We covered areas such as First-Aid, Program
Philosophy, Games, Crafts, Child Development and a park tour. Robyn and Nate
contributed alot to the orientation because of their experience last summer. I
had quite a few games from teaching P.E. At the close of the second day the
leaders chose partners and were assigned to their parks.
STAFF MEETINGS - Once a week, on Tuesday noon, we all met at the Village Hall .
We used this time to share how thngs were going and to encourage one another.
Games and crafts were planned for the next week. Each team of leaders made up
a flyer advertising their special activities for the week. The amount of time
allotted for these meetings was perfect.
STAFF PERFORMANCE - I feel the leaders did a good job this summer. They became
close friends right away. The way the leaders were paired proved to be successful .
I felt they all set a good example and helped me so that field trips went
smoothly. One problem we did encounter and needed to discuss was that on field
trips their first responsiblity was to the children. Because they enjoyed each
other so much they were tempted to goof around together. This problem disappeared
after we met and red Iscussed our responsibilities. The rest of the summer went
great.
