Y
Arden Hills Park and Recreation
Summer Playground Evaluation
• 1987
Cheryl Fregeau
Program Director
The summer playground operated from June 15 to July 24, a six week program. June llth
and 12th were used for orientation and a workshop in Stillwater.'Minnesota Recreation and
Parks Association puts on a workshop for playground leaders. This is the third year we have
attended and I reccomend the leaders continue to go, as it was very beneficial.
The staff this summer consisted of seven people. The four leaders were Vonda
Bjorklund, Amy Hansen, Chris Doocy and Andrea Thorson. Shelly Douglas and Heather McClung
were hired as assistants. This group was excellent! The best I have worked with in
four years.
PROGRAM Programs were held 'at Cummings Floral Pe Valentine
Hills School was under construction so we switched the program over to Perry. I feel that
Perry Park is a better location to have a program and would suggest that next summer they
run one there again. The Tiny Tots program ran from 9:30 - 11:30 in the morning for ages
4-6 years old. Afternoon sessions were held at the same parks from 1:00 - 4:00 and was
geared to ages 7-12. In addition to games and crafts, special events were planned to
liven up each week. One of the leaders made a suggestion that the afternoon group be
eeiiv,en a name like " 7 up " or " 7 on up ".
1987 Park Registration
a.m. p.m.
Floral 35 32
Cummings 29 19
Hazelnut 35 21
Perry 39 28
a.m. total 138
p.m. total 100
238
Adventure Trips These weekly trips occurred each Friday. Below is a list of the
trips and a financial report for each one. Half way through the summer we switched to a
different bus company who lowered their rates. Otherwise, bus fees continue to be quite
expensive. This summer we tried four new locations and they proved successful.
The Shakopee Pool and Waterslide Trip ended up being too far to travel. I would suggest
oing to a Waterslide that is closer to home, like the Amusement Park on Highway 10.
aterslides are very popular.
