Minutes of Regular Parks and Recreation Committee Minutes <br /> Village of Arden Hills <br /> • May 20, 1986 <br /> Village Hall <br /> Call to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order at 8:05 p.m. by Chairman Sand. <br /> Roll Call <br /> Present: David Sand, Adele Anderson, Keith Enrooth, Mary Gillies, Don <br /> Messerly, Alan Montgomery, Tom Mulcahy, Jim Otto <br /> Absent: Gerald Dreyling, Jim Mishek <br /> Also Present: Councilman Dale Hicks, Mayor Robert Woodburn <br /> Mounds View Basketball Association Chair Rolf Oliver <br /> City Planner Orlyn Miller <br /> Paul Malone, Public Safety/Works Committee <br /> Parks Director J. T. Buckley <br /> Approval of Minutes <br /> It was moved by Mulcahy, seconded by Gillies, that the minutes of April 26 be <br /> approved as submitted. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> Mounds View Basketball Association - Progress Report <br /> Oliver stated that when School District 621 was forced to cut back on its <br /> elementary and junior high basketball programs because of budget cuts, the <br /> Mounds View Basketball Association was created to provide opportunities for <br /> youngsters in this age group to develop basketball skills and enjoy the game. <br /> • The program, operated by parents, is now two years old. A program for girls is <br /> operated from October through December, for boys January through March. <br /> 115 girls registered last fall. <br /> 4 teams - 3rd and 4th grade league <br /> 5 teams - 5th and 6th grade league <br /> 4 teams - 7th and 8th grade league <br /> Traveling Teams - 1 at 6th grade, 1 at 7th grade, 1 at 8th grade <br /> and 1 at 9th grade <br /> 154 boys registered in January <br /> 6 teams - 3rd and 4th grade league <br /> 6 teams - 5th and 6th grade league <br /> 4 teams - 7th and 8th grade league <br /> Traveling Teams - 2 at 6th grade, 2 at 7th grade, 2 at 8th grade <br /> The Association is sending questionnaires to the parents of all participants to <br /> help to evaluate the program, and these results will be shared with this <br /> committee. <br /> Otto mentioned some concerns he has regarding the program: <br /> Occasionally, participants are absent from school for illness, yet play in <br /> games that evening - would like a ruling that players cannot participate <br /> if absent from school. <br /> Players are occasionally removed from school to play in out-state <br /> tournaments - would like tournaments restricted to weekends. <br /> • Mr. Oliver agreed to recommend these changes to the Board. <br />
