MINUTES OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE <br /> January 14 , 1969 <br /> SPresent - Boss , Cadwell , McIntosh , LaNasa , Fish , Spratt, Lindbom ( 10 :00) <br /> Absent - Kuehn , Engle <br /> Also Present - Council Liaison , Bjorndahi , H . Lagerstrom <br /> Skating rinks are now in fairly stable condition . Mounds View High <br /> School warming house is up ; lights need only to be hooked up by NSP. <br /> The Public Works Department now has five employees ; one salary is paid <br /> from the Parks and Recreation budget. Parks and Recreation has a new <br /> truck, a four-wheel -drive pickup with snowplow. <br /> The Village now has full title to the Co Rd E lot adjacent to the <br /> hockey rink. Parking for the area must be regulated to keep cars <br /> off the highway . <br /> Girl Scout Troup 21 wants to work this summer on some village beauti - <br /> fication project at Perry Park. <br /> Mr. Lagerstrom recently attended a meeting of the Mounds View School <br /> District Recreational Advisory Committee. He reported to that organi - <br /> zation the land purchases Arden Hills has made for parks , and showed <br /> them the maps recently prepared by Mr. Peter Jacobson of the St. Paul <br /> Parks Commission for their possible future development. <br /> • He also told us about reports from other localities which are concerned <br /> with recreation and associated needs. Some examples from these reports <br /> are as follows : <br /> North Oaks made a survey to get an idea of the opinions of the residents. <br /> The nine activities most desired are , in order of preference ; Swimming, <br /> free skating , tennis , sailing, outdoor pool , indoor pool , nature trail , <br /> baseball , teen activities . Of 1600 residents in North Oaks, there are <br /> about 200 children ranging in age from pre-school to young adult. <br /> New Brighton passed a bond issue for $ 1 . 2 million (spaced over 30 yrs . ) <br /> This amounts to about $ 15 . 00 per family per year. Other money will <br /> be raised from a variety of sources to make up about $400,000 more. <br /> Their parks were described , with existing facilities and projected <br /> needs. The system includes 109 acres on the east side of Long Lake. <br /> There are 75 acres of available school property, and proposed new parks <br /> involve 175 acres. <br /> Moundsview reported that they have eight park areas , seven of which <br /> have been donated. Some are tax-delinquent land . All have playground <br /> equipment. One is a civic area with Village Hall , picnic facilities , etc. <br /> The February meeting will be 8: 00 p .m.
