NEW BUISNESS – 5F
Site Information

* The light purple indicates where the goats browsed in September 2023.
* The darker purple areas are where I recommend an initial seeding this winter or transplanted plugs in
summer 2024.
Recommended Plant Communities
When buckthorn or other invasive species are removed, it is now considered crucial to add native plants
– if they are not already prevalent in the seed bank – as soon as possible. Otherwise, we're creating an
opening for more invasive species to take root. But not all plants are created equal; it’s important to select
plants adapted to the existing moisture and light conditions.

The DNR’s Field Guide to the Native Plant Communities of Minnesota: The Eastern Broadleaf Forest
Province was used to identify which species are commonly found in natural areas with the soil &
hydrological properties that match the selected sections of Chatham Trails, as well as the “Indicator Plants”
found in the park. Some of those are listed below. Species that are currently found in those sections of the
park are highlighted in green.
