He based acceptability on existing structure has
established a lesser front setback and the steep slope at the rear of the
site is considered a legitimate hardship to moving the new bay farther
back on the site.
Wayne Johnson, Captain at Station 1 and Chairman of the Renovation
Committee, advised members the needs of the LJFD have changed over the
last few years. He stated the building currently is not energy efficient,
there are water problems and he felt the building was in need of exterior
treatment to enhance the neighborhood.
Meury asked wbat color the exterior of the building would be. e
. Johnson advised the color had not yet been decided; possibly stucco in
neutral tones with decorative brick on the front of the building.
Winiecki asked if the other stations bad large training facilities such as
proposed for Station 1; concerned over duplication of facilities.
Dan Winkel, Fire Chief, stated this proposed facility would be the largest
for training but he noted that the training schedule rotates monthly
between the stations. Winkel also advised he was not sure if the joint
fire station currently under consideration would have any training
facilities.
Marlyn Tramm, 3248 New Brighton Road, was concerned about increased
activity at the station due to the expansion. Tramm noted that a few years
ago there were prob!ems due to the social activities at the station;
noise, careless driving, and late hours.
Winkel and Johnson stated there would be no additional activities, however
there has been an increase in membership so more people may attend the
.. social functions. Both advised there are organized activities at the
station; annua! steak fry, Christmas breakfast, monthly training/business
meetings and then there are social activities members use the station for,
such as; retirement parties, birthday parties and anniversaries.
-
! j
-----------. ,- ---"------- --- .-. --~-
