February 27, 1987 Mayor and City Council City of Arden Hills 1450 West Highway 96 Arden Hills, MN 55112 Appointment to Council Vacancy Dear Mayor and Councilmembers: This letter is my request to be considered for appointment to the vacancy on the City Council occasioned by Dale Hicks' resignation. First, let me say that I, like so many others in the City, greatly appreciate Dale's contributions to local government and am very sorry to see him leave. I wish him and Claudia well, and look forward to their safe return from Morocco. I have lived in Arden Hills for over 21 years and have been active in City affairs for 10 years. My service to Arden Hills began in 1977 when Mayor Crepeau appointed me to the Finance Committee. I served five years on the . Finance Committee, three as chairperson. This service provided very valuable experience with the budget and fiscal affairs of the City. Mayor Crighton appointed me to the Planning Commission where I gained additional valuable experience. My contributions, while serving on these committees, were to preserve and enhance the fiscal stability of our community and to open and make more understandable the process by which citizens approach their government. In 1982 I was appointed, then elected, to the City Council. Considering the background of my committee service, my efforts were concentrated in keeping Arden Hills a sound, conservatively financed governmental unit. l-1y interests were also broadened. Mayor Woodburn appointed me to be liaison to the Parks and Recreation Committee. I came to appreciate even more the beautiful community in which we live, and I became interested in making it even more attractive. I believe that my most significant achievement, attained with the support of the Parks Committee, the Planning commission and the City Council, was the enactment of a Parkways Plan as part of our City Code. .
