Account No. 381 (Street Lighting). $6,350 is provided in this account for
implementation of Phase I of the proposed street lighting plan, which will
light major intersections.
Account No. 303 (Engineering Fees) was $14,200 in 1987, drops to $4,500 in
1988; the Pavement Management Study, completed in 1987, accounted for
$10,000 of this expenditure.
Account No. 406 (Seal Coating). Committee recommends that Raddatz explain
the relationship of this seal coating project to the total Pavement
Management Plan.
Account No. 224 (Sand, Salt and Road Mix). Committee questioned whether
this could be reduced, since last year's usage was so low, and some should
be stockpiled.
p. 34 Storm Sewers
Account 437 (Miscellaneous Expenses). Committee questioned this being
budgeted at $3,000; asked Raddatz to show cause for this.
p. 38 Summer Playground Program
Committee requests Buckley supply comparison of fees charged with those of
other communities; recommends increase in fee from $5.00 per child to
$10.00 per child.
. p. 40 Skating Rinks
A neighborhood, informal skating area will be constructed and maintained at
the new North Snelling Park.
p. 42 Park Maintenance
Steele noted this budget has gone up 14% overall in the last five years; it
was explained that there are more parks to maintain necessitating the
increase in maintenance costs.
Account Nos. 550 and 580 (Automotive Equipment). Committee requested
Buckley present information regarding age and condition of equipment he
proposes to replace, and rate in a descending scale of importance for
purchase in 1988.
p. 47 Shade Tree Disease Control
Erickson suggested $8,000 be cut from this budget, with the tree inspector
only answering inquiries as residents call in, rather than making the
Village-wide inspection as in prior years. Committee requested Buckley
supply information re: (a) how many cities are still actually doing
surveys for diseased trees; (b) how much time the tree inspector is
spending on doing these surveys.
p. 48 Self Sustaining Recreation
Account No. 109 (Park Salaries). Buckley is requesting a half time program
director, to manage the park and recreation programs. He states that the
residents indicate that they want these programs; in order to provide
. programming closer to a level with other communities, we need to ipcrease
our programming and can not do so without more help.
