v
, ~i
. u0
. Sewer line on Wync~ next to Hamline was televised because of problems;
there proved to be a dip in the line, under Hamline Avenue. Raddatz felt
that in some way, either NSP, the phone company, or the cable company,
caused pressure on the line, during construction, to cause the dip; SEH is
researching the best method of repair. Raddatz is avoiding at all costs
any repair that would involve pulling up any portion of Hamline Avenue.
Sewer line problems have also recently been encountered in the line
running through the compost site. Public Works personnel found a block of
cement, plus large pieces of railroad ties in the sewer. All debris has
been removed, and the manholes covered with a load of sand, so they are
not visible to pranksters. (Raddatz says that if he needs to get into
them, it's simple to remove the sand with the scraper.)
Recycling Program
Malone reported that the subcowmittee has met, is considering recommending
(1) a program of twice-monthly pickups of recyclables, with a $1.00 charge
to residents via their utility bill to cover the cost, (2) volume-based
pricing by the haulers, so residents could conceivably recover the $1 by a
reduced bill for less garbage, and (3) providing a place where all yard
wastes could be taken (since this constitutes 10% of the waste stream) and
a separate pickup by haulers of yard waste. The Committee is continuing
to refine a program for presentation to this committee, and to Council for
eventual implementation.
Adjournment
. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
Submitted by Shirley Marshall
THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY/WORKS COMMITTEE
WILL BE HELD OCTOBER 15, 1987, 7:30 P.M. VILLAGE HALL
.
