.
.
Solid Waste Management Plan Page 3
October, 1987
.
4. Remove a Significant Portion of Yard Waste From the Refuse Stream
Action Needed: None at present
Comment: During the course of discussions with the haulers,
it has been learned that certain of them, Bellaire
in particular, would be willing to provide
supervised roll-off service for yard refuse at no
cost to the city. A nominal fee (25~ per bag) is
charged to users, and the city would need to supply
a site - probably the city hall lot. Since the city
gets "credit" for material removed in this manner,
the Solid Waste Committee would like to further
explore this option with the thought of providing
this service during the spring and fall of 1988.
Summary of Actions Needed:
l. Authorize the staff to solicit bids for curbside recyclable pickup.
2. Authorize the staff to apply for recyclable pickup reimbursement
grants.
. 3. Authorize the amendment of hauler licenses to require the provision
of 15% discounts to residents limiting waste to 60 ~~ ~~
beginning ~ I, 1988. ~
"'--
t>'S~.
"1.
