. 3368 Lake Johanna Blvd.
Arden Hills, MN 55112
September 27, 1987
Nito Quitevis
450 Horseshoe Drive
Shoreview Minnesota 55126
Dear Mr. Quitevis,
I received a copy of your letter to the Boat and Water Safety
Committee dated Sept. 18, 1987. It is amazing to me that you
have the nerve to think you and other fellow motor boat owners
have the only right to use public water. It is also overwhelming
to me that you can use it for no charge. I have been a home
owner on this lake for more that 45 years (family's home was second
on the lake). All this time we have paid taxes and done the physical
labor needed to maintain the shoreline and water surface for you
tow ons to enjoy. The Lake Johanna Improvement Society has been
incorporated for over 25 years with its main objective of keeping
the lake free of weeds and algae. Last year the bill was nearly
$8,000. The home owners raise all the money with yearly contributions
from Ram~ Co.(not to exceed 50%0. I have never received any sup-
. port from your Water Ski Association; however I am certain many
of your bunch use the lake.
It takes alot of audacity to think that water skiing and loud
noise is the only way to enjoy a lake. Too bad for you, that you
cannot enjoy quiet sports including sailing, canoeing, swimming
and simply sitting and looking. Since the boa ting restricitons
;have been established on the lake, we have increased in wildlife,
/swimming, sailing, canoeing, and soothing periods without incredible
noise. Du:.ing the boating hours it is impossible to swim because of
the wake and the shoreline and lake bottom get so disturbed that
the water clarity drops to zero. As for 250 feet. I would gladly
have the association pay for the shoreline markers and that would
truly cramp your style of harrassment. As a lifelong resident,
we have always respected Shoreline and swimming areas. Many of your
skiers do not, cutting in between docks and rafts, coming too
cl'lse to non power boats, and in general disturbing anyone who
is~art of your "In Crowd".
You state that you are not aware of any questionaire that was
circulated around this area. How about living here instead of
complaining. I have not noticed a Horsehoe Drive on our shore.
A petition was set around personally by several members of the
residents group in the Improvement Society. I have received
phone calls and personal visits regarding reducing the speed and
:. even eliminating the power boating entirely.
As for Mark Petersen, he does not live on Lake Johanna and
I
I nis parents (who live tere) ~i.~fve t:0ver contributed to the eost
of maintaining the weed fl'ee Llke that all of you non residents
1i0 ...ld Like t~) C"i")lltrol ~ I i'odl nls comment about sailboats is
...- -" ,-~---~- ------"
.
