Motion carried unanimously. (4-0) <br /> <br />REPORT OF PARKS DIRECTOR <br /> <br />ARDEN OAKS PARK <br />IMPROVEMENT <br /> <br />Council was referred to Parks Director's memorandum. <br />8-6-87. relative to the park improvements at Arden Oaks <br />Park. <br /> <br />Buckley explained that during the preparation of the park site for the <br />installation of the backstop and shelter. neighbors expressed concern for these <br />improvements. Members of the Parks Committee. Councilman Sather and Buckley met <br />with the residents in the area and a large majority of the residents agreed to: <br /> <br />1. Placement of the backstop in the northwest corner of the park. <br />2. Placement of the hard court area in the southeast area of the park. <br />3. Delay the installation of the picnic shelter for a year or two. <br /> <br />Mayor Woodburn questioned if play programs could be scheduled at the park <br />without the shelter. <br /> <br />4It <br /> <br />Buckley stated that he had advised the residents no programs would be held at <br />the park until the shelter was installed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peck questioned if the picnic shelter had been purchased for this <br />site. <br /> <br />Buckley advised that the materials were purchased for the structure; discussed <br />moving the structure to North Snelling Park. <br /> <br />SUMMER MAINT.AND <br />PROGRAM PERSONNEL <br /> <br />Council was referred to Buckley's memorandum of 8-6-87; <br />relative to his recommendations for hiring an interim <br />seasonal maintenance person and additional program <br />personnel. <br /> <br />Council questioned the salary increase for the interim employee; Buckley <br />adVised that the person he recommended was an older mature person. college <br />graduate, and had more experience. He explained that $4.75 is tpe base salary <br />and when an employee has been hired for more than one year they receive a <br />salary increase. <br /> <br />Councilmember Peck questioned if the individual was hired next year would he <br />receive an increase; Buckley advised that one of the individuals working this <br />year is making $5.50 per hour because he had been with the City three years. <br /> <br />4It <br /> <br />Council consensus was that the base pay should remain at $4.75 per hour. <br /> <br />Moved by Peck. seconded by Hansen. that Council approve <br />the hiring of Dennis Walsh. through the month of September. at $5.00 per hour. <br />and further. that the additional program personnel be hired as per the Parks <br />Director's memorandum of 8-6-87. Motion carried unanimously. (4-0) <br /> <br />FALL FESTIVAL <br />STATUS REPORT <br /> <br />The Parks Director reported on the planned activities <br />for the annual Arden Hills Fall Festival. to be held <br />on September 12th. <br /> <br />Buckley stated that the activities will be centered at the Arden Plaza Center <br />and include an art show. booya. kiddie parade, craft and food fair. He noted <br />that this year there would be an amateur contest and persons interested in <br />participating may contact Buckley at the Village Hall. Jill Hansen at the <br />Chamber Office or Steve Carlson, Chairman for the event. <br /> <br />NO. SNELLING PARK <br /> <br />The Parks Director stated that he would report on <br />the development of North Snelling Park at a future <br />Council meeting. <br /> <br />. <br />
