LIttle <br />Arthur J. Schmaedeke <br />James P. Sexton <br />Mayor Nethercut requested dlscu~slon and the following comments <br />were made: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />,Roger Moberg, 1315 Till er Lane stated that he Is opposed to Sexton <br />because of the type of conviction he was Involved In and believes he <br />should seek employment In another area regardless of the fact that he <br />dl~an o~tstandlng Job as an officer In the past. <br /> <br />Dick Jones, 1863 Glenpaul Road stated his Interest In the matter and <br />stated that he did not find anything In the books which would prohibit <br />the rehiring of Mr. Sexton. Mr. Jones stated that Mr. Sexton vOluntarily <br />visIted psychlctrlst Martin ,W. Orbeck, and Mr. Jones stated that he <br />personally talked wlot~Orbeck and the psychiatrist could see no <br />problem In rehlrlng'1lJm. Mr. Jones refe,rred to a letter from Rev. <br />Beltz, Trinity Lutheran Church, who stated his opinion as a citizen <br />of Arden Hills and stated that he personally has no objection but <br />rather recommends Mr. je.e>ton's rehiring. Mr. Jones also stated <br />that,he has a character affidavit from Repres~ntatlve Robert O. Ashbach. <br /> <br />Mr. Jones 1nlormed the public that he had met with the Public Safety <br />Committee which recommends the rehiring and he believes that Pat will <br />be the best pollee officer any village ever will have. <br /> <br />John Rysgaard, 3947 Roiling Hills Road, stated that he dowsn't feel <br />that It's for a group of people here to sit In Judgement of a man <br />without knowing all the facts. l.l.c..,~ ~ ~. <br /> <br />H. w. McCleod, 1110 Carlton Drive, stated that the matter shoul~ be <br />seriously considered from the standpoint of th~~penBgers as the <br />children are well aware of the conviction through publicity; he does <br />not believe Pat will have respect from them. He stated his belief <br />that Pat should have a chance, but not In this area of employment. <br />Mr. McCleod also presented a note from his son who Is President of the <br />Sophomore class at Mounds View High School which stated his lack of <br />respect for Mr. Sexton. <br /> <br />Victor Weber, 3623 Pascal Avenue, Assistant Director of Public Safety, <br />stated that he Is positive that Mr. Sexton's offense had nothing to ' <br />do wIth his being a pollee offlcer'and the Public Safety Committee <br />recommends unanimously that he bEl re-aPPolnted. He stated t.hat he <br />had talked with many of the young people In Arden Hills and theIr <br />concern I s ~Ihen I s Pat com I ng back and not whether he Is; most <br />residents Mr. Weber talked with believe Pat should have another <br />chance. <br /> <br />Bill McGUire, 3116 Hamllne Avenue, stated that he Is the father of <br />four chi Idren and believes Pat has paid hls,d,ebt to society and would <br />trust his children with him anytime. . , <br /> <br />. Arnold Wicklund, 1458 Skiles Lane, stated that he has misgivings about <br />rehiring. He believes the Council has taken on a great responsibility. <br /> <br />Jim ~ohmaedeke~ 1954 Edgewater, parf time police officer, stated that <br />he has worked wIth Pat before this happened-~nd~has been asked repeat- <br />edly by the children when Pat will be coming back., <br /> <br />Rod Schumacher, 3140 North Hamllne Avenue, recommended rehiring Mr. Sexton. <br /> <br />Roger Moberg stated that he believes In forgiving, but ~oes not believe <br />Pat whould be placed In a posItion of temptation, believes the Public should <br />have been Informed of the consideration. <br /> <br />Ronald Herrick, 1860 Lake Lane, recommended rehirIng Mr. Sexton. <br /> <br />VIctor Pomerenke, Village Justice of the Peace, stated that he made <br />his own survey whIch Included families with about 40 children Involved <br />and they all stated they would be glad to see him back on the police force. <br /> <br />-2- <br />
