. \.
Mr. Gary Berger ~
Delta No. 10-89-385
April 26, 1990
Page 2
Although Delta is not specifically authorized to provide abandoned drum disposal management,
we recommend additional funds be allocated to:
1. Inventory the abandoned drums according to type, condition, and suspected contents,
2. Segregate the drums to a more secure area on the site to facilitate continuation of the
demolition activities.
3. Sample and chemically analyze individnal drum contents.
4. Once drum contents are characterized. arrange for proper disposal of drums and
contents.
These tasks would supplement the scope of work presented in the November 9, 1989 work plan.
Delta would utilize one or possibly two subcontractors to complete these tasks. The estimated cost
range will depend upon the final determination of waste eharacteril.ation and the number of drums
which mnst be disposed of. Tt is our opinion the additional estimated costs associated with this
work will range from $4,000.00 to $6,000.00.
Delta will continue to provide subcontractor management for the UST removals. water well ~
abandonments. and asbestos abatement. These activities must also be coordinated with the general
demolition activity. Delta feels strongly that proper handling and disposal of the abandoned drums
is in the best interest of the Village of Arden Hills. Timely coordination of the drum handling
and disposal will allow other site demolition activities to continue as scheduled.
If you have any questions regarding the abandoned drums, or the recommended handling or
disposal procedures, please call me at 636-2427.
Sincerely.
Jl::~&::ULTAN" me
arn:,ll J.
