PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 1990, 7:30 P.M., CITY HALL
CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, Chairman
. Probst called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.
ROLL CALL The roll being called, the following members were
present: Chair Dennis Probst, members Scott
Petersen, Dorothy Zehm, Dan Ashbach, Jeanne Winiecki, Dave
Carlson, Peter Martin, and Raymond McGraw. Absent: Barbara
pi otrowsk i , Robert curtis and Robert Woodburn. Also present were
Planner John Bergly, Clerk Administrator Gary Berger and
Administrative Secretary Mary Ann DeLaRosa.
-
APPROVE MINUTES Zehm moved, seconded by Winiecki, to approve the
April 4 minutes as submitted. Motion carried
unanimously. (8-0) .
PUBLIC HEARING Chair Probst opened the meeting at 7:30 P.M. for
CASE #90-05, the purpose of a public hearing on a Special Use
SUP, McGuires, Permit to allow a roof sign by Howard Johnson at
Roof Sign the McGuires Inn site, and also to consider a
dimensional variance for two directional signs
at 1201 W. County Road E, submitted by applicant Steve Kappler,
General Manager at McGuires.
Administrative Secretary DeLaRosa verified publication of the
Notice of Hearing on Wednesday, April 25 in the New Briohton
Bulletin and mailing to affected property owners on April 18.
. Planner Bergly reviewed the signs proposed for the site, noting
that the original roof sign permit was issued in 1973, before
Special Use Permits were required. The permanent north-facing
roof sign request is being reviewed as a SUP at this time in
order to issue a sign permit. Bergly noted that the existing
roof sign will be replaced, first by a temporary banner and then
by a 4'x53' permanent business sign.
Planner Bergly also noted that two new 13 square foot permanent
directional signs are proposed at the front entry from Co. Rd. E,
which require variances, since they exceed the dimensional
requirements of the sign ordinance.
An eight foot x 31'6" (not 58' long as noted in Planner Bergly's
May 2 memo) long permanent business sign which meets all
ordinance requirements, will replace a new temporary banner on
the east facade. Bergly also noted that the existing pylon sign
in the Co. Rd. E front yard area will remain as is, requiring no
Planning or Council action.
Planner Bergly noted that the McGuires site fronts on two
streets, thus is allowed to have three business signs. He
recommended approval of the SUP for the roof sign as proposed,
for the following reasons:
.
---
