<br /> CHAPTER 2 <br /> COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />Sec. 2.01 Composi tion: Termst Qualifications and Compensation of Members <br />A. There shall be a Board of Commissioners of Ramsey County, <br /> ( hereafter "county board") , State of Minnesota, composed of <br /> seven members elected by districts. <br />B. Members of the county board shall be elected as provided in <br /> Chapter 7 of this charter, for terms of four years beginning the <br /> first Monday in January after their election; but members shall <br /> continue to serve until their successors have been elected and <br /> take office. The terms of the county board members shall be <br /> staggered as provided by law. <br />C. Qualifications <br /> 1. A person shall be eligible to be elected to or to hold <br /> the office of member of the county board if the person is <br /> an eligible voter of the county, has been a resident of <br /> the district from which the person is seeking election <br /> for 30 days, and has filed the affidavit of candidacy as <br /> required by state law. If a member ceases to be a <br /> eligible voter of the county or a resident of the <br /> district from which elected, or is convicted of a felony <br /> or any other offense which would create a vacancy in <br /> office as provided by the state constitution or other <br /> law, the member shall immediately forfeit the office. <br /> 2. No county commissioner shall hold another elected office <br /> or be employed by the county during tenure as <br /> commissioner. No commissioner shall receive any money or <br /> other valuable thing as a condition of voting or <br /> inducement to vote for any contract or other item under <br /> consideration by the board. Every election and every <br /> contract or payment voted for or made contrary to this <br /> section is void. Any violation of this sec.tion is a <br /> malfeasance in office. <br />D. Compensation <br /> 1. The county board may determine the amount of the annual <br /> salary of its members by ordinance. The ordinance shall <br /> state the dollar amount of the annual salary and shall be <br /> passed by July 1 of the year prior to the effective date <br /> of the ordinance. <br /> 2. The salary ordinance shall not be effective until the <br /> first business day of the following January. A petition <br /> asking for an election on the proposed ordinance, signed <br /> by registered voters of the county equal in number to ten <br /> percent of those who voted at the last general election <br /> for the office of President of the United States, is to <br /> 2 <br />
