She noted there may be other alternatives which could be <br /> discussed after the committee chairperson has presented his report. <br /> John Buckley, Chairperson for the committee, explained the rationale for the <br /> smoking policy recommendation; he noted COncerns were: L Air Pollution, 2) <br /> Health of Smokers and Non-Smokers, and 3) Employer Costs due to Loss of <br /> Productivity. He also reviewed the options discussed by the committee: <br /> . 1. Village Hall can remain status quo. <br /> :'., 2. Village Hall can become Smoke Free. <br />. J. A Common Smoking Area can be designated, such as the Council <br />\ .-/ Chambers only between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and Office Area <br /> designated as Smoke Free, <br /> .4, Same as li3, except Council Chambers could be designated half <br /> smoking, half non-smoking, after 5:00 p.m. <br /> Buckley advised the Public Works Garage is presently a smoke free area and will <br /> remain as such. <br /> Morrison explained that an air purifier had been placed in the office area for <br /> about one week, Employees determined that the system did help air circulation, <br /> however t Buckley noted the purifier did not remove the chemical pollutants from <br /> the air. She also advised that there is adequate space in the Council chambers <br /> to designate smoking and non-smoking areas, and be within the State law <br /> guidelines. <br /> Mayor Woodburn advised that the Council chambers had previously been designated <br /> half smoking, half non-smoking. <br /> Hansen noted that many Cities have adopted the smoke-free policy at their City <br /> Offices and Council Chambers. <br /> There was discussion regarding alternative policies for smoking/non-smoking <br /> designations. <br />.. <br />\ I <br />'- <br />
