Subarea 22 - Arden Hills, Gem Lake, Centerville, Lino Lakes, North Oaks, Shoreview, White Bear Lake, White Bear Township, Vadnais Heights HIGHLIGHTS General Characteristics o Large population increases are projected for Shoreview and Vadnais Heights by the year 2000. - o Population densities are highest in parts of Shoreview, Arden Hills and White Bear Lake. o Employment increases are projected for Arden Hills, Lino Lakes, Shoreview and Vadnais Heights for the year 2000. Transit Dependents o Medium levels of low income households are located in White Bear Lake. o Medium levels of elderly are located in White Bear Lake and Vadnais Heights. Generators o All major generators are located in Arden Hills and Shoreview along 1-694 and Highway 51 except for Lakewood Community College in White Bear Lake. Congestion o Major congestion levels occur along 1-694 between T.H. 65 and T.H. 51 in Arden Hills, New Brighton and Anoka County. This should become minor by the year 2000. . o Moderate levels occur along 1-35W through Arden Hills to T.H. 36 and on 1-694 through Little Canada. This should increase to major levels by the year 2000. Travel Characteristics o Lino Lakes and White Bear Lake have a medium level of internal trips. o Major destinations are to adjacent subareas including Roseville and Maplewood. o There are high travel desires from Shoreview to Arden Hills and White Bear Lake to Maplewood. o Major work destinations from this subarea are to Roseville and the St. Paul CBD. Existing Transit Supply o Primary alignment of all transit routes is north-south. o Five routes provide local transit service to this subarea. Three are radial routes oriented to downtown St. -Paul which operate weekdays only; one route provides north-south crosstown service in southeast White Bear Lake from Lakewood Community College to the east side of St. Paul; and the third local route provides rush hour reverse commute service from downtown St. Paul to Lakewood Community College. o Ten express routes operate in the subarea. Eight of the routes provide rush hour express service to downtown St. Paul and two of the routes provide rush hour express service to downtown Minneapolis. o Reverse commute services include: Route 15 to the White Bear Lake area; and Routes 20 and 31 to Lakewood Community College and 916 AVTI in the southeastern corner of the subarea. . o Local transit routes in the eastern part of the subarea are aligned to provide weekday service to Maplewood Mall and downtown St. Paul. o No weeknight, Saturday or Sunday transit service operates in this subarea.
